Lungile Magongo, Mpaka Railway PrimaryWednesday saw sixteen teachers attend the Rugby Teacher Coaches Workshop held in Manzini. The teachers came from schools spread throughout the Kingdom braved the heat and long journeys to participate in the workshop, and they were welcomed by SKRUM CEO Michael Collinson. Collinson explained that the workshop would concentrate on the practical side of the game of Rugby and that most of the workshop would be spent outside on the playing field.
"The Teacher Coaches Workshops aim to introduce the teachers to the basics of Rugby and have them actually play the game to allow them to use what they have learnt in a game situation," said SKRUM Development Coach Mario De Sousa. "We play Tag Rugby to introduce the teachers to Rugby and thereby avoiding any contact and possible injuries."
The teachers obviously enjoyed playing - even in the afternoon heat. "We not only Coach Rugby, the teachers are introduced to the SKRUM Programme and given the relevant literature and information about the HIV/AIDS and Gender violence programmes," added De Sousa.
