Gilgal High School girlsTuesday saw the first joint Coaching Day held by the SKRUM Coaches. The Head Teachers of Gilgal Primary and High Schools asked if their schools could have a Coaching Day together as they were keen to get the game of Rugby going at their respective schools as soon as possible. So the four SKRUM Coaches made the decision to go for it.
One hundred and seventy three pupils turned out for the Coaching Day which stretched the Coaches to their limits. The SKRUM Coaches split the two schools into a morning and afternoon sessions which made the numbers a little easier to handle. Mario De Sousa with a smile on his face thanked Mr. Hlabatsi, Head Teacher from Gilgal Primary for inviting the SKRUM Coaches to his school, but said he didn't imagine that so many of his pupils would want to play Rugby. Mr. Hlabatsi said they have been reading in the newspaper about Rugby and schools playing Rugby and wanted to join the Rugby league. The pupils have pestered me for a long time to get Rugby here and I thank you for coming, said Hlabatsi.
The afternoon session with Gilgal High kicked off at 1pm and lasted until 4.30pm. I'm surprised the youngsters just wanted to keep on playing said Mario. We wanted to end the session at 3pm, but the players would have none of it. With enthusiasm like this we couldn't say no.Gilgal Primary. Running from the bull?
